This information is only collected with your knowledge (i.e., if you voluntarily provide it to us through one of our online forms) and will usually take the form of either:
The types and amount of information collected for these registrations vary slightly depending on the feature, but will include personal or contact information (such as your name and/or e-mail address) and non-personal or demographic information (such as your age, hobbies, where you live, and username and password). Before you could post messages on David Perry Forums, you need to register. As part of this registration, you will be asked to: (i) submit personal information such as your e-mail address; (ii) create a username and password; and, (iii) provide other non-personal information such as the time zone you’re in, the name of the person who referred you to our forums, and whether or not you want to receive email from our administrators or other forum members. This information is used to allow you to read and post messages and/or comments on our forums as well as communicate with other members of the board (if you so choose). Once you are signed in, you are also given the opportunity to add certain information to your profile (e.g., IM name, hobbies, occupation, and place of residence), update any part of your profile, and set your forum preferences and settings (e.g., invisible mode, private messages, etc.). We strongly encourage you to use these features so you can control what information is made visible to other users and who can contact you online.
Account registration for the DPFilesWiki site requires that you create a username and password, and provide your real name and email address if you so choose. This information is used to allow you to post documents and articles that you’ve authored as well as get access to those published by others. Your real name is used to give you credit for your work, and your email address so you can let other members contact you.
In order to comment on articles posted by David Perry on DPerry.com, you may be asked to register and provide your name and email address, as well as create a username and password, through an authentication service called TypeKey. This information is presently collected and managed by another company called Six Apart for the purpose of authenticating users wishing to post comments on DPerry.com. David Perry does not have access to this information, nor do we control how this information is used. Please note that Six Apart may use the information for purposes other than DPerry.com authentication, including for the purpose of authenticating you on other TypeKey enabled sites, collecting additional information about you to further enhance your profile, or to tell you about other Six Apart products and special offers. If you would prefer not to receive this additional information or do not want your information to be handled by Six Apart, please be sure to indicate such on the registration form or refrain from signing up when prompted. The email address associated with any of the accounts above may be used to confirm your registration and to contact you with important announcements or updates related to that specific website or service, your use of a specific feature (e.g., David Perry forums), or other related information.
Finally, we may use your personal and demographic information for our internal marketing and demographic studies, so we can constantly improve the online products and services we provide you and to better meet your needs and interests.
Cookies
We use cookies to improve the use and functionality of our Websites. A "cookie" is a small file websites often store on your computer for record-keeping purposes. Agents and Contractors
We may use outside companies or their software (“vendors”) to provide support for the internal operations of our Websites, such as authenticating users who sign up to post comments on DPerry.com. In the course of doing so, these vendors can come into contact with and be responsible for managing some of your personal information. Although we strive to only give them access to (or allow them to collect) the information they need in order to actually perform the tasks they have been hired to do, certain vendors (such as TypeKey) may use the information for other purposes related to the services they provide and, with your permission, to maintain direct contact with you regarding Six Apart products and services. In all cases, however, we take steps to select only those vendors who have developed sound privacy practices and procedures.
Legal and Business Transfers
We may disclose personal information in the good faith belief that we are required to do so by law or to otherwise protect our legitimate business interests, including but not limited to disclosure to law enforcement or other government officials in connection with an investigation of fraud, intellectual property infringement, or other activity that is illegal or may expose you or us to legal liability. In addition, in the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or other similar event, your account information (including personal information) may be transferred to our successor or assign.
David Perry maintains reasonable procedures to protect the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the personal information collected from visitors to our Sites. Personal information collected by David Perry is stored in secure operating environments that are not available to the public and that are only accessible to authorized employees. We also have security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. For example, before we allow anyone to access their personal information, we verify the person’s identity by requesting unique information such as username and password.
A Special Note about our Discussion Forums
Please note that if you give out personal information in public areas such as on our discussion forums, that information can be collected and used by people you don't know. While we strive to protect those who wish to participate in these activities by (for example) using usernames instead of real names, we cannot guarantee the security and privacy of any information that you post in these areas.
We do not knowingly collect personal information such as name and email address from children under 13 on our Websites. We recognize the importance of safeguarding the privacy of children and encourage parents to check and monitor their children's use of online services regularly.
To review, correct, or remove the information contained in any of your accounts, please log in to the relevant account and make the appropriate changes through the available profile section (depending on the site, this may be labeled as “Preferences,” “User Control Panel,” or something similar). You can also use the profile section to adjust your forum settings and preferences.
If you want to delete your account entirely and you are not able to do so through the appropriate profile section, please contact us at privacy@dperry.com and we will take reasonable steps to accommodate your request.
