DP in Northern Ireland

Just a quick update.

Came back from a trip to China for Thanksgiving, then flew to Northern Ireland.

I was invited to visit Queen's University, this is the University I'd have gone to if I'd stayed in Northern Ireland.

Once I agreed to go, this snow-balled in to a pretty huge week.

That said, what a fantastic week. I went and spoke at my old High School, "Methody" in Belfast. They gave me a tour of the School (now 20+ years later.) It was so cool to see some of the old teachers still there.

I've been taken all over the city to meet with high-tech businesses, investment agencies and cutting-edge research centers. The city has dramatically changed since I was here last. For example, they showed me a 46 channel sound stage. (I'm talking true 3 dimensional sound - meaning the room is suspended in the air so there's speakers around you in 360 degrees.)

I also had tea with the Lord Mayor of Belfast.

Today, I gave a speech in that Giant Dining Room they used in the Harry Potter movie and they held a dinner for 110 people. They then give me an award for the first Visiting Fellowship in the Creative Industries.

Tomorrow I teach a 6 hour class on game development sponsored by Coca-Cola.

I've nearly lost my voice!

If you ever get the chance to visit Belfast, you should, it's been a really fun trip!

In the meantime, our Dance game is getting very very very close to being available in closed beta form. Looking forward to testing that with you all when I get back.

I was at your master class today David and I just wanted to say that it was really amazing and thank you, you gave me a real insite into the industry as well as a lot to think about ( such as new concepts, graphics and what happens when they become photo realistic, game ideas etc) but most of all you gave me alot of drive to work even harder. So thank you and hopefully one day I will be able to meet you again as a fellow games designer.

David, it was great to meet you and hear your very personal presentation in the Great Hall. I think your presence and comments have been heard in all the right places! Drop me an email when your daughter has seen the 1st episode of our series Lifeboat Luke

Hi David. Just wanted to say thanks again for the game development class. It was great to hear your thoughts on the subject and to have a chance to meet you in person.
Just so you know, my own decision to pursue game development as a career was taken after playing the game 'Messiah', and checking out the making-of CD that came with it - while i was still at Art College in Belfast.
I changed specialism, developed a small level for Quake 2 and got a job as an artist not long after.
So thanks :)
and keep up the great work.
