Second Annual Independent Game Conference

Now in its second year in Austin, the Independent Game Conference (IGC) will turn its attention to the critical issues affecting the survival and growth of independent game developers – how to make best use of emerging technologies and take advantage of market opportunities to run a successful business. The two-day, two-track program will include emerging development platforms, prospects in mobile and casual games, IP protection, marketing games and recruiting vs. outsourcing. The conference will include the hugely successful Game Demo Night where developers show off their latest games to their peers. A Keynote Address will be given by *Mike Wilson*, CEO and *Harry Miller*, President and Chief Development Officer of Gamecock Media Group, a well-funded, independent, artist-driven game publishing company, which offers titles across every platform. Wilson's video gaming history began at id Software where, as vice president of marketing, he helped make the DOOM 2 and Quake properties net-propagated global phenomena. In 1996, he left id to help form ION Storm with some of the industry’s top game designers and took on the role of CEO. Miller served as CEO of Ritual Entertainment, where he helped launch successful properties such as SiN and Heavy Metal FAKK 2. In 1998, Wilson and Miller banded together with other industry stars to form an artist-driven video and computer game publisher, Gathering of Developers (a.k.a. G.O.D. Games). The company was known for the innovative nature of its products, for its risk-taking approach to new intellectual property, and for producing amazing marketing and PR programs to drive sales at a fraction of the marketing expense of most of the major labels. They founded Gamecock Media Group in 2007 with the aim of helping independent studios bring their titles to market while retaining control over their development vision. “We are delighted to have Mike and Harry open the Conference” said Steve Farrer, Executive Director of the IGC, “their experience and innovative approach to business will set the tone for the event. The IGC will deliver practical insights and techniques that game developers can implement immediately to help them survive and thrive in an increasingly competitive market” The IGC has moved to the Austin Convention Center to accommodate the increased numbers expected to attend, but the basic philosophy of keeping the event cost effective and value driven for attendees, sponsors and exhibitors has not changed.
